Deed Help Desk – Real Estate & Probate

 Would you like to make an impact on the San Antonio community in a short time frame?  The Deed Help Desk is a great way to help people in need with their deed and county records questions.  Volunteer attorneys at SALSA’s Deed Help Desk will meet with the client in a “help desk” setting and provide legal advice about common issues relating to deeds and title situations. 

 Here are some questions we anticipate encountering at the Deed Help Desk: 

  • How do I change the name on my deed? 
  • How do I add a name? 
  • How do I take off a name?
  • How do I transfer my parent’s deed to my name? 
  • Someone filed a fraudulent deed on my property, what do I do? 
  • After probating an estate, what needs to be filed here to change the deed? 
  • How do I put my property under an LLC? 
  • If a family member passes away, how do I remove their name from the Deed?
  • Someone filed a fraudulent lien on my property, how do I remove it? 
  • What form do I need to file to remove my ex from my deed?  How do I get a new deed with just my name? 

 The Deed Help Desk is located at the Bexar County Archives, at 126 E. Nueva St., San Antonio, Texas 78204. 

 Volunteer law students from St. Mary’s University will gather background information and identify the legal issues during clinic intake.  The volunteer will then be paired with a law student and a client to discuss the deed and county records issues.  The volunteer attorney will meet with the client only during the prescribed Help Desk hours.  Mentors and SALSA staff members will be on stand-by to answer questions that may arise.  After providing legal advice to the client about the proper next steps, the volunteer will then complete a closure form which will allow SALSA staff to determine whether any follow-up services are available for the client.  If the client’s situation requires a more complex method to resolve the issue(s), SALSA staff will assist with providing the client referral information for additional resources after the volunteer’s assistance has concluded at the Deed Help Desk. 

 Once volunteer attorneys register with this event, you will be sent a confirmation e-mail including a link to SALSA’s Deed Help Desk Resource Page, which contains event information and some helpful resources.
