*Notary/Translator Registration* 1102 Guardianship Assistance Clinic

Help a family get protection for a vulnerable loved one. At SALSA’s 1102 Guardianship Assistance Clinic, volunteer attorneys and law students help pre-screened clients complete an 1102 information letter — a submission under Chapter 1102 of the Texas Estates Code that asks the Court to investigate whether an adult over 18 needs a guardian. Notaries and translators play a key role in making sure each client’s packet is complete, accurate, and ready for the Court.

Volunteer Notaries
Several documents in the 1102 submission packet must be sworn and notarized before they can be filed. You’ll verify each client’s identity, witness their signature, complete the acknowledgment or jurat, and affix your stamp and seal. Please bring your notary stamp or seal, your journal, and your current commission.

Volunteer Translators
Many of the families we serve speak Spanish or other languages. You’ll interpret conversations between the client and their attorney and law student, help the client understand the documents they’re signing, and make sure their story is captured accurately in the packet. No legal background is needed — just fluency and a willingness to help.

No legal experience required for either role. Volunteer attorneys handle all drafting and advice. Your time helps a family take the first step toward securing care and protection for someone who cannot advocate for themselves.
