*Attorney Registration* 1102 Guardianship Assistance Clinic

Help protect vulnerable adults in a single clinic session. Under Chapter 1102 of the Texas Estates Code, a concerned party can submit an information letter asking the Court to investigate whether an adult over 18 needs a guardian. This triggers a court-initiated proceeding in which the Court appoints a Guardian Ad Litem and Attorney Ad Litem, with fees covered through Bexar County for qualifying low-income families.

What You’ll Do
You’ll be matched with a law student and a pre-screened client to complete the client’s 1102 submission packet from start to finish. Every client has already completed a pre-qualification checklist with an attorney, so you can focus on drafting and finalizing the submission. Use the law student’s support however you’d like — drafting, language interpretation, or client communication.

No guardianship experience required. Clients arrive prepared, forms are ready, and a law student is at your side. SALSA volunteers are covered under SALSA’s Professional Liability policy, and clinic hours count toward the State Bar’s recommended 50 hours of annual pro bono service.
