Join us as we help low-income homeowners preserve generational wealth and ease the burden on their families by drafting Transfer on Death Deeds (TODDs). This clinic narrows the access to justice gap and reduces pressure on our local probate courts by empowering clients to pass their real estate to loved ones without the delay and expense of probate.
At the TODD Clinic, volunteers assist clients in preparing and executing a Transfer on Death Deed and provide limited advice related to title issues. This is a valuable opportunity for attorneys of all experience levels to make a lasting impact.
The clinic will be held from 8:30 am -12 pm at the Mexican American Unity Council located at 2300 W Commerce St #200, San Antonio, TX 78207. Volunteers are asked to bring a laptop for drafting documents. We will provide printing and notarization services on-site.
Once you register, you’ll receive access to our TODD Clinic Resource Page, which includes training materials, sample documents, FAQs, and a recording of our pre-clinic training. Experienced mentors will be available throughout the clinic to answer questions and review documents prior to execution.
All clients are pre-screened and will have completed a TODD-specific questionnaire before the clinic. You’ll be matched with a client and a trained law student to assist during the session. Volunteers will review the questionnaire, draft the TODD using our provided template, consult with a mentor, and finalize the deed for execution. Notaries and witnesses will be available on-site.
Whether you’re an experienced estate planning attorney, a litigator interested in learning a new area, or a new attorney looking for meaningful pro bono work, this clinic is for you. Training, templates, and on-site support ensure you have the tools you need to succeed.
